Law of Attraction & Spirituality. Though some people may view it as merely a form of exercise for the body, it is more correctly a union of the mind, body and spirit. The word itself means to unite and its purpose it to bring everything together for a very balanced life.
It is not a religion. It is a way of life which is practised by Christians, Buddhists, Jews, Hindus, Muslims and atheists alike. It deals with universal truths and is the art of right living.
Maharishi Pantanjali is generally considered the founder of the philosophy. He outlined the system, which is now known as the eightfold path to salvation.
All yogis base their practice on these eight steps of Pantanjali. Each relates to an aspect of achieving a healthy and fulfilling life, and each builds upon the one before it. This system produces the health benefits of yoga.
There are many types that are popular today and sometimes it is very confusing for the novice. "Hatha" refers to all types of the physical practices of this, hence the word can be used interchangeably with "yoga". "Vinyasa" is also a generic word, which means "breath-synchronized movement" and can therefore encompass many styles. It is often a more energetic style, which is based on a series of poses called "Sun Salutations", in which movement is matched with breathing.
It is a path to inner peace and the body is seen as a temple that houses the soul. It involves proper exercise ("Asanas"), yogic breathing ("Pranayama"), relaxation, a vegetarian diet as well a positive thinking & meditation.
The different chakras relate to different organs in the body and achieve the health benefits of yoga.
